About This Episode

StarTalk Radio returned to the Bell House in Brooklyn, New York on December 18, 2011 for our second show in front of a live audience. Co-host Eugene Mirman was joined by fellow comedians Kristen Schaal and John Hodgman, while Neil brought along his NASA astronaut buddy, Mike Massimino.

In the second half of the show, Mike talks about the “Right Stuff” and how he became an astronaut. Neil explains how space telescopes like Hubble (which Mike repaired) and Kepler are being used to search for planets orbiting far-distant stars, including the recently discovered “Earth-like” planet Kepler 22b. The audience closes out this live session with questions about space travel, the hexagon on Saturn, and what the Hubble’s deep gaze into the cosmos reveals about the nature of the universe.
