On Monday’s Season Premiere, Neil deGrasse Tyson Sits Down with Tim Ferriss

On this week’s Season Premiere episode of StarTalk Radio, in addition to moving our publishing time to Mondays at 3pm ET, we’re also breaking our normal format once again for another “A Conversation with…” episode. Neil sits down with author and entrepreneur Tim Ferriss to discuss everything from marine biology to neuroscience to writing books. Tim is an entrepreneur and author known for his books The 4-Hour Work Week, The 4-Hour Chef, The 4-Hour Body, and his podcast The Tim Ferriss Show.

You’ll find out about Tim’s geek underbelly and his early love of marine biology and science fiction. You’ll learn about his early hobbies including playing Dungeons & Dragons as well as reading science fiction classics like Dune and Stranger in a Strange Land. We discuss his early interests in sharks and his connection to the film Jaws.

Tim tells us how he shifted his main focus from marine biology to neuroscience after discovering his family history with neurological diseases. Then, we discuss his eventual leap into studying East Asia and the impact his final thesis had on where he ended up today.

Discover more about Tim’s books The 4-Hour Work Week and The 4-Hour Body. We talk about why the books are named “4-Hour” and how Tim handled being rejected by over 25 publishers. Tim explains his love for testing ideas. We also discuss Tim’s most recent book Tribe of Mentors.

To close things out, we explore Tim’s interest in psychedelics. We investigate the stunted growth of psychedelics in society and why Tim thinks they could have helped a lot more people by now. Lastly, we explore life hacking. All that, plus, we break down the value of meta learning.

Please join us Monday for A Conversation with Tim Ferriss at 3pm ET right here on our website, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Spotify, Stitcher, and TuneIn. If you’re a StarTalk+ Patron or an All-Access subscriber, you can watch or listen to this episode ad-free at 3pm, too.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
