On Friday’s StarTalk, Neil deGrasse Tyson Serves Up an Astrophysics Mashup

Now that the manic cooking preparations are finally over with and your Black Friday shopping is complete, it’s time for some well-earned relaxation – and what better way to relax than pondering the wondrous and weird cosmic phenomena that exists throughout the universe.

This week on StarTalk Radio, join Neil deGrasse Tyson and a team of comic co-hosts as they take you through some of our favorite astrophysics-themed conversations and fan-submitted Cosmic Queries.

To start, Neil is joined by the always wonderful Leighann Lord as they discuss everything from double star systems to the dark matter in your bedroom. I especially like when they talk about the discovery of the Hubble constant and its impact on the field of astrophysics.

You’ll hear Neil chat with Godfrey about aliens observing Earth from Alpha Centauri and what they would be seeing right now. Also, Neil sits down with Iliza Shlesinger to explore dark matter, antimatter, and what life would be like if the dinosaurs were still roaming the Earth today – would we even be here?

A mashup wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of Chuck Nice. You’ll hear Neil and Chuck chat during two different segments in this episode, discussing a range of cosmic happenings: tidal friction, off-world colonization, and more. Off-world human space travel has already happened, but permanent colonization is still up for debate in some circles. However, I think that for humanity to survive, we must be able to thrive elsewhere in the universe. It’s in our nature to explore and exploring the universe is the grandest adventure of all.

I enjoy these mashups because they let you in on some clips you might have missed or don’t remember. With so many good shows in our canon, these can serve as a friendly reminder that it’s never a bad idea to revisit your favorite episodes!

Please join us tomorrow night for Cosmic Queries Astrophysics Mashup at 7pm ET right here on our website, as well as on our channels on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. If you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can watch or listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too. And remember that you can also listen to next week’s StarTalk Radio episode one week early exclusively on TuneIn, at tunein.com/startalk.

That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
