While the Cat’s Away… Bill Nye Guest Hosts on StarTalk this Sunday
Have you ever heard the phrase, “When the cat’s away, the mice will play?”
Well, our host, Neil deGrasse Tyson, is certainly one cool cat.
I’m not sure Bill Nye the Science Guy, Eugene Mirman and NASA astronaut Mike Massimino qualify as mice, but while Neil’s was working on the new COSMOS series on FOX, they sure did have fun recording this week’s episode of StarTalk Radio.
Just listen to how amazed Mike Massimino, a guy who’s been in space twice (and on the Big Bang Theory more than that!), is at having Bill Nye the Science Guy explaining magnetism to us. And the joy with which Bill answers your Cosmic Queries is contagious – it’s easy to believe him when he says he’s having the time of his life.
The science flies fast, furious and funny in this episode, from 3-D printing to climate change, liquid metal batteries to super conductivity and carbon nanotubes to magnetic field generators. The science fiction does, too, with speculation on warp drives, light speed travel and teleportation. Bill educates us all about Michael Faraday, electromagnetism and NASA’s MAVEN mission to Mars, and he gets passionate about the engineering challenges in addressing climate change.
We may not have had our own personal astrophysicist around for this episode, but having Astro Mike, Eugene Mirman and our own Science Guy is not too shabby. Not too shabby at all.
Join us this Sunday at 7:00pm ET on our website, iTunes, SoundCloud and Stitcher.
IMPORTANT: Daylight Savings Time begins March 9th. That means sometime between now (Saturday, March 8th) and when our episode runs on Sunday, March 9th, you need to move your clock forward one hour or you’ll miss our show… and maybe even COSMOS, which premieres one hour later on FOX.
