Wednesday, We Introduce a New Playing with Science Segment – “Gary’s View”

This week on Playing with Science, we’re bringing you something new. Instead of a regular episode, we’re bringing you an all-new segment called Gary’s View, where our very own Gary O’Reilly breaks down the latest news and controversy in the sports science world.

On this first edition of Gary’s View, Gary looks at Video Assistant Referee. This concept has been a staple in American Football but has been recently introduced to the highest level of soccer around the world, most notably in the 2018 FIFA World Cup last summer in Russia.

However, even with its very high accuracy ratings – 98.9% – FIFA is still deciding whether or not to use it for the upcoming Women’s World Cup this summer. What’s with the delay? Why is FIFA dragging their feet? Gary offers his view. Check it out tomorrow at 7pm ET on our Playing with Science Twitter and Facebook channels.
