Tuesday, Our Episode about Expanding Perspectives Gets Expanded with More Cosmic Queries

This week we revisit Expanding Our Perspectives, with Bill Nye. A great episode that features great fan-submitted Cosmic Queries about expanding perspectives. And yes, a lot about marijuana and LSD. But also some fan-submitted questions about discovering life on Mars, STEM, climate change, clean water on Earth, and much more.

This episode is now extended with another session of Cosmic Queries coming from a Facebook Live session featuring Bill Nye and Chuck Nice. These Facebook Live sessions are always cool because the questions are coming in real-time and can often take on a life of their own.

In fact, it seems there was a main theme for this session and that was dealing with the anti-science culture. Topics include dealing with flat-earthers, teaching critical thinking and science in the classroom, the scientific method, and more on the educational divide in the population.

However, it’s not all anti-science questions. When a fan asks Bill about four-dimensional math and if could help with the development with time travel, he explains that four-dimensional math is already a reality. And, as he usually does when asked about time travel, Bill stresses the importance of living in the present and not thinking about altering the past.

However, if it were up to me and I could go back in time, I don’t think I would try to change anything. As a film geek, I honestly think I would visit some of the sets of the most influential films ever made, just to see what the atmosphere was like and if the gravity of the situation was upon them. Films like Seven Samurai, Schindler’s List, Casablanca, All The President’s Men: the list is endless and it changes depending on whom you ask.

However, I totally agree with Bill. It’s a good thought experiment to think about time travel but that’s all it should be. The present has so much to offer, including this upcoming episode of StarTalk All-Stars!
