This Sunday, Cosmic Queries are back!
Cosmic Queries are back! Now that we’ve helped the TV show get off the ground, we’re returning to our regular Sunday night mix of episode formats, including StarTalk Live! podcasts and more Cosmic Queries, some which will be hosted by Neil like this Sunday’s episode and some with Bill Nye as our guest host. We’ll also mix in podcast versions of the TV show every once in a while, too.
Join us for this week’s podcast, Cosmic Queries Potpourri, where Neil deGrasse Tyson answers questions “that don’t stink,” selected by Chuck Nice from those submitted by our fans on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and right here on the website.
Here is just a sampling of the topics covered:
- The search for gravity waves using the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO)
- Could there be a planet made of dark matter?
- ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor)
- Spectroscopes and decoding the chemical nature of the Universe
- Why the Sun’s gravity can keep Jupiter from flying off into outer space but not pull the Earth into its fiery embrace
- Black Holes
- Pressure differentials, the Brooklyn Bridge and “the bends”
- The fabric of spacetime
- Information Theory and the Conservation of Information
- The difference between nuclear fusion and nuclear fission
- Why comet ISON fizzled and where meteor storms come from
- Why the Great Attractor isn’t such a big deal
- Whether space existed before the Big Bang
- Who does a better Barry White impression, Neil or Chuck?
- What Neil thinks of “middle-aged man bellies”
And yes, those last two are really in the show.
If you’ve been missing Cosmic Queries, then be sure to join us on Sunday, May 17 at 7:00 PM ET on our website, iTunes, Stitcher, TuneIn and SoundCloud.
That’s it for now. Keep Looking Up!
–Jeffrey Simons
