NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC’S FOUR-TIME EMMY-NOMINATED SERIES, STARTALK WITH NEIL DEGRASSE TYSON RETURNS MONDAY, NOV. 12, AT 11/10c

All-New 20-Episode Season Includes Interviews with Jeff Goldblum, Former Vice President Al Gore, George R.R. Martin, Patricia Cornwell, Anna Deavere Smith and the Late Anthony Bourdain

(WASHINGTON, D.C./LOS ANGELES) National Geographic announced today that the four-time Emmy-nominated talk show StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson returns for a fifth season with 20 all-new episodes this November. Each episode includes a cosmic conversation with a featured celebrity guest and mind-blowing scientific commentary with a panel of experts and comedians.

In the upcoming season, Tyson discusses with the late Anthony Bourdain the science of food and the most pivotal moment in his television hosting career when he traveled to Beirut in 2016. Tyson also speaks with Jeff Goldblum about dinosaurs and aliens and learns the backstory of “Game of Thrones” from author George R.R. Martin. He sits down with former Vice President Al Gore, podcaster Joe Rogan, New York Times best-selling author Patricia Cornwell, performer Weird Al Yankovic, engineer and science educator Bill Nye, news anchor Dan Rather and actors Jack Black, James Marsden and Anna Deavere Smith. In a first for the series, Tyson also travels deep within the Arctic Circle in Greenland with the Air Force to tour the facilities of one of the most critical military bases, Thule Air Base, with a two-star general.

Derived from Tyson’s popular radio show and podcast of the same name, StarTalk is the first-ever science-based talk show. Each episode features an intimate interview between Tyson and a guest from pop culture, politics, sports or news, in which they discuss how science and technology have affected their lives and careers.

StarTalk is recorded in front of a live studio audience American Museum of Natural History’s Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City — where Tyson serves as the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium. In addition to Tyson’s one-on-one interviews, he speaks with a panel of comedians and experts who analyze the conversation. This season’s comic co-hosts include Chuck Nice, Sasheer Zamata and Matt Kirshen.

The American Museum of Natural History, founded in 1869, is one of the world’s preeminent scientific, educational, and cultural institutions. The Museum encompasses 45 permanent exhibition halls, including those in the Rose Center for Earth and Space and the Hayden Planetarium, as well as galleries for temporary exhibitions.
