Friday, Get Trippy with Neil deGrasse Tyson, Harrison Greenbaum, and Janna Levin

Do you have an urge to ponder the most far out ideas about our universe? Ideas that make you sit and stare at the stars as your mind does backflips over and over? Well, if so, this week’s show is right up your alley.

On this week’s episode of StarTalk Radio, Neil deGrasse Tyson, comic co-host Harrison Greenbaum, and astrophysicist and StarTalk All-Stars host Janna Levin sit down to answer fan-submitted questions on the most “out there” ideas about the universe.

In the first segment, we dive into a concept that might be unfamiliar – a holographic universe. What is it? How does it work? Can two-dimensional information give the illusion of being three-dimensional? How does this concept involve black holes?
Janna and Neil dive into it… I would give more information here, but, the nuances and depth of answer are really something that needs to be heard.

Then, we move on to white holes, the opposite of black holes. You’ll find out how this concept developed and where it stands in today’s world of astrophysics. We discuss universes that could await us through black holes. We hear how time gets wibbly-wobbly inside a black hole. You’ll also discuss negative mass and negative energy.

In our last segment, we cover a lot of ground with an extended Lightning Round of questions. Discover how the universe can be expanding away from us, but, at the same time, we’re on a collision course with the Andromeda galaxy. You’ll learn if there could be black holes within other black holes. We explore what’s beyond the observable universe, if anything. All that, plus, you’ll learn about Janna’s book, Black Hole Blues and Other Songs from Outer Space, which chronicles the discovery of gravitational waves at LIGO, and why her book almost had a very disappointing ending.
