Discover More About Climate Science with Bill Nye, Chuck Nice, and Climate Scientist Kate Marvel
The one and only Bill Nye the Science guy makes his return to the hosting chair on this week’s episode of StarTalk Radio, alongside comic co-host Chuck Nice and climate scientist Kate Marvel, to answer your fan-submitted Cosmic Queries about the changing climate.
We discuss how to convince climate deniers to believe in climate change, if there are any viable options to reduce the CO2 emissions already in the atmosphere, and if there is any merit to using nuclear energy.
Kate does a fantastic job of making climate science easily understandable. Because climate change is measured with the average temperature of the Earth – and no one directly experiences the average Earth temperature – it can be a vague concept. However, as Kate says, if you look at it like doping in sports, climate change is as if we are doping the weather. We can’t link climate change to certain weather events yet, but we know it has an impact. Just like in sports where if an athlete takes a performance-enhancing drug we can’t prove it was the cause of victory, but we know it certainly helped. Be sure to stick around until the end of the episode because Kate absolutely kills it during the Lightning Round.
Also, if you want more discussion on climate science the StarTalk Podcast Network has you covered. Re-visit The Science of Climate and Weather, with Kathy Sullivan where Neil sits down with ex-NOAA administrator Kathy Sullivan, Bill Nye answers more fan-submitted Cosmic Queries on Cosmic Queries – Climate Change, and be sure to check out our recent StarTalk All-Stars episode Climate Science: Advocacy & Activism, with David Grinspoon where host David Grinspoon, Chuck Nice, and climatologist Dr. Gavin Schmidt debate if you can be a scientist and an activist at the same time.
Please join us tomorrow night for Cosmic Queries – Climate Science, with Bill Nye at 7pm ET right here on our website, as well as on Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, SoundCloud, Stitcher, and TuneIn. If you’re an All-Access subscriber, you can watch or listen to this episode ad-free at 7pm, too.
