Did You Thank Your System Administrator Today?

Behind every website, every company’s computer network, every server farm, in fact, behind every “cloud” on the Internet, is a system administrator.

They are the unsung heroes of today’s wired world, at least, unsung every other day of the year. Today, the final Friday in July, is System Administrator Appreciation Day. Today we sing their praises.

However, if you’ve ever heard my singing voice, you’ll thank me for refraining. Instead I will point you to an awesome short story by Cory Doctorow titled, “When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth” from Overclocked: Stories of the Future Present. The title says it all, but it doesn’t mean what you might think it means, and therein lies the fun.

And to our own StarTalkRadio.net system administrator, who for a variety of reasons shall remain nameless, I, Jeff, say to you, oh mighty Tech Guru and Web Wizard, “Please keep everything running smoothly. Please keep our website, RSS feed and server glitch-free. And when you get a chance, can you take a look at my laptop? Something goes wonky whenever I do this…”
